Frequently Asked Questions
When I donate a car what do you do?
We partner with The Vehicle Donation Processing Center, which acts as an agent on behalf of non-profit organizations by operating their car donation programs. They arrange to remove the vehicle, take care all the paperwork (DMV, state, etc.) and handle the sale of the donated car at auction. The Vehicle Donation Center can only accept car donations on behalf of a vetted charity that has signed an authorization for them to act as their agent for vehicle donation, boat donation, and donation of other appropriate chattel items.
How long does the car donation process take?
One the day you donate (except weekends) a Pickup Request is faxed to a local transport company. They contact
you within 24 hours. If you give us with your email address, within 24 hours we send you the transport company’s
phone so you can call them directly to expedite the arrangements for pickup if you wish.
Can car donation paperwork be faxed to speed things up?
Any paperwork that required for transfer ownership of your donated vehicle or vessel is delivered by the transport company. They also give you a receipt. If you would like a temporary receipt before your donation is picked up just give us your email address.
Who takes care of the registration fees for my donated car?
If the registration has already expired, or if it will expire before the donated vehicle is picked up, you are responsible. If the registration expires after we pick up your car donation then it is our responsibility.
How do I know I will not be responsible for my donated car—such as getting tickets—after it is picked up?
Some States have a Release of Liability or Release of Interest form that you use whether you sell a car or you donate it. In all states, the vehicle registration department of the DMV is notified about the new owner when your donated car
is sold at auction. If you are unsure how this is done in your state, the transportation company that picks up your car should be able tell you what you need to do. You can also call the donor service department at the Vehicle Donation Processing Center, 877-660-6689, to get help with your questions.
Before I donate a car, can I get more information about the charity I choose?
Yes. At any time—before, during, or after the vehicle donation process—you can call the donor service department at the Vehicle Donation Processing Center at 877-660-6689 to get more information on all our charities' mission statements. If a link to a charity’s web page does not appear then call the Vehicle Donation Processing Center at the number above, or send email to info@donatecarusa.com with the name of the charity and we will have them contact you directly.

We can only accept car donations on behalf of groups that have authorized the Vehicle Donation Processing Center, Inc. to act as their agent. If you would like to donate a car to an organization that is not on the list at the URL above, please have them contact us for information on how to sign up as a client.
Do you pick up my car donation from any location?
We pick up vehicle donations nationwide but we are not able to service all areas. If we don’t service your area we can
generally tell you that in your first call to the Vehicle Donation Processing Center. In any case, we let you know within 24 hours if we will be able to pick up your car donation in a timely manner.
What percentage of the proceeds from my car donation goes to the charity?
